K-pop!

Hollywood is the only form of entertainment for the young generation these days(Lets not talk about Bollywood and Dhaliwood). So let’s face it-we are too lazy to try out something new because we’ll need to work hard to find a suitable showbiz and after going through a pile of junk, you may be disappointed. But luckily (you can thank me later) some of us took the time to look into some new genre and find an alternate entertainment world.

Guys, we’re Asians, so isn’t it safe to say that we’ll find something suitable towards the East? That’s why I bring to you a blast of Asian music. We are already familiar with J-pop and J-rock, thanks to the animes, but some of the most popular groups in Japan are actually Korean idol groups.

The South Korean music industry is surprisingly well developed. However, it is not exactly what Hollywood music is. When I first entered the world of K-pop, things were confusing for me as well. The first barrier is of course the language barrier but come on, whatever happened to ‘Music makes one’ and ‘Music is a language in its own’? Korean music has a unique touch of its own that makes it so different. Probably the most interesting thing about K-pop would be the idol groups. They are groups of boys or girls (rarely co-ed groups), having members from one to twenty-one (no this isn’t a typo), most of which concentrate on dancing as well as singing. So if you like to dance and party, K-pop is your genre because most of the songs are upbeat and comes with their own choreography. Although I’m saying K-pop, there’s a lot more to it actually. Hip-hop, R and B, Rock, Electro, Indies, Ballads—you name it! Many of the songs are groovy and will get you head-nodding, while others will work like a lullaby. You will realize the craze about K-pop around the world once you see that all the music videos and shows related to K-pop can be found with English subtitles. In fact, the popularity of K-pop has reached to such a level that Youtube has officially recognized it as a genre. On many occasions, K-pop videos have come as the most-viewed video on Youtube and many songs have placed in the Billboard Top 100 songs. It is surprisingly true that some of the idol groups have the largest international fan-body in USA. The Hallyu (Korean) wave is spreading far and wide(If you happen to watch KBS World or Arrirang, maybe you had a glimpse of that). There are a lot of sites from where you can download songs for free.

But I’m not saying K-pop is flawless. There are some things that will seem very new and shocking, but once you get used to it, you will learn to live with it.

Now I know a lot of complaint is about the guys and make-up. Hmm, let’s say they follow Michael Jackson too closely. Girls, you might have to live with the fact that a few guys are actually prettier than you. But once you get over the first shock, you might actually like them and fawn over their pictures.

The fan-base of K-pop in Bangladesh is quite small at the moment but it’s growing. With the strengthening of the Hallyu wave around the world, you cannot just miss out on it.

So I’m trying here to help out K-pop fans with the latest reviews and new songs. I got the hang of it pretty well and for those who never tried it out, let this be your beginning.

Keep reading and we’ll look at new and more detailed and fun reviews. Bit by bit I’ll explain all that there is to know. So welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the ride!
